Thank you for having a look here at

James Slevin and Marianne Potterton´s  Wedding page!

We are sending out invitations but here is a little extra information, so if the invitation leaves you feeling a bit confused about what to do and all the other things that you need to know for such an occasion we hope that this will help. James and I are really hoping that you can make it to our Special day. Sorry that it is on a Friday and not a Saturday when most people could get away who are working. If you can get here even late on Friday after work that would be great.

Yes it is a Fancy Dress!

We want people to dress up as kind people from history (it is kind of interesting how people remember the nasty ones more). This was James idea but I think it is wonderful! I will give a prize of a piece of art to the winner. Not to worry about when we go to the opening in the gallery, the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon are expecting lots of people in fancy dress! If I was not the bride I wonder who I would dress up as? maybe Gandhi or Florence Nightengale!

We hope to be in our garden for most of the day so wear/bring something warm and an umbrella just in case! If you are coming in a car and have any handy folding chairs or deck chairs that would be great. We don’t want to put you off coming or anything, but it is best to be a little prepared!

The Day will start with James’ Birthday Breakfast at 11.30, a big cake and glass or two of guiness, I have never met anyone who enjoys Birthdays as much as James so this will be fun!  Then those that are camping can pitch their tents, others may escape for a little while to prepare for the rest of the days festivities! The Wedding ceremony will take place at 3.30. It will but held in the garden. Straight after the ceremony will be the smaller of the two feasts in the garden, if the weather is good otherwise we shall squeeze into the house !

There was be bus to take people to the opening of “Merging 3” an exhibition of Paintings, Sculptures and works in Ink on Japanese ply, by Marianne and two other artists (more information about this on my blog). Then the bus will take people back for the second part of the wedding feast to enjoy Fire pit food, music and dancing until sunrise. There will be taxis available to take people back to their accommodation.

There is plenty of room for tents in the garden and we have 4 loos so don’t worry!

Any problems just let us know

TRAVEL

Ok, if you are coming from somewhere in Ireland our full address is “The Secret Gallery, Luogh North, Doolin, Co. Clare.

Here is a link to google maps for driving directions:

Now, if you are coming via England try and catch the following flights:

Ryanair Flight FR 109 on Thu, 13 Aug, 18:15 Depart Stansted and 19:35 Arrive in Shannon.

We will be picking people up by coach from the plane and bringing everyone into Doolin to drop off where they are staying. We will then be dropping people back to shannon by coach to catch the:

Ryanair Flight FR 108 on Sat, 15 Aug, 21:25 Depart Shannon and 22:45 Arrive back in Stansted.

But if you cant make those flights or your coming from somewhere else:

if your on a different flight but coming into shannon on the the 13th hang around till 8pm and catch the coach we will be hiring with everyone else

  1. If your taking a taxi its between 80-90euros from Shannon airport to Doolin (ouch)
  2. If your taking the bus from Shannon airport use http://www.buseireann.ie to get from “Shannon Airport to Ennis” and then “Ennis to Doolin” can take a bit of time, but cheap as chips.
  3. If your walking from Shannon airport its about 58.5 km and takes about 12 and half hours, not including time to have a few pints on the way.

Here is a google map of the walking route:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=shannon+airport&daddr=doolin&hl=en&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=52.85575,-9.12661&sspn=0.468508,1.187897&ie=UTF8&ll=52.855864,-9.125519&spn=0.468508,1.187897&z=10

PLACES TO STAY

Make sure if you are not driving that wherever you stay is really “in” Doolin or in one of the following places that you can easily walk from to make it easy to pick everyone up Hotels and B&B´s Not that many “hotels” around here more a case of lots of b&b´s. Most of them are in the village of Doolin, about a 10 euro taxi ride from where we are getting married or you can walk it in about 30 to 40 minutes (very nice stroll with great views) Here is a link to google again with a pretty extensive list of the accomodation in Doolin:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&gl=uk&ei=STw5Sqa7LOWZjAeihvCkDQ&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=hotels+doolin+clare&fb=1&split=1&gl=uk&view=text&ei=bjw5Ss7BEZu8jAeAoPH1DQ&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=more-results&cd=2&resnum=1#

This is a list of the ones that are closest, first in the list is the closest last the furthest:

  1. Bay view b&b tel: 00353 65 70 74325
  2. Doonagore farmhouse tel: 00353 65 70 74170 www.doolin-accommodation.com
  3. Castle view farmhouse tel: 00353 65 70 74289 www.castleviewdoolin.com
  4. Sea view house tel: 00353 65 70 74826 www.seaviewhouse.eu
  5. Doolin Hostel tel: 00353 65 70 74421 www.doolinhostel.com
  6. St Anthony´s tel: 00353 65 70 74357 www.doolin-bedandbreakfast.com

  8. Daly´s house tel: 00353 65 70 74242 www.dalys-doolin.com (baby sitting available)

Prices range from 30 to 100 euros per person hunt around for a good bargain and call to see if they can put extra mattresses down to squeeze more of you into a smaller room. Remember that Ireland has the best breakfasts so find out if they are included in the price (normally yes in B&B´s and no in Hotels).

Hostels, great hostels in Doolin and around try http://www.hostelbooker.com or hostels.com They range from 15euro per person in 6 bed dorms to 30euro ish in private rooms. They are all nice and you can take advantage of the bigger rooms if you have a big family and it works out much cheaper than a b&b. Camping We have a garden with room for about 10 tents, feel free to bring your tent and stay close to the action as this maybe the smartest idea, if you dont mind singing.

Peace and Love, Marianne and James xxx

Just stting here making plans and very much looking forward to the celebrations. Mick is deciding which of his SIXTEEN guitars to bring (i fear he has become obsessive!) and hoping it’s ok to do so? • Hi Jackie and Mick no worries about the reply as we seem to have had more photocopy´s back than original rsvp´s as it is 🙂 I am really excited your coming and hope Mick brings more than one geetaaar to join in with the rest of the gang. Have you got a place to stay or are you pitching a tent with the others? I think we have one tent free here if you need it, let me know. Lots and lots of love, James

Been to sort our fancy dress today and if we’re honest, we just wanted to get going today and bugger waiting til Thursday!!! Still, i must learn patience! See you Friday, love and hugs,

      • Hello Marianne and James,

This time last week the debauchery was only beginning helped on by the rain and mojitos. The drum duet was amazing as was the lamb(cooked to perfection on the spit) Who made the wedding cakes? Lucious.

Marianne you looked beautiful. Loved the montbretia and dog daisies. So elegant you were too James, also in white. Poppy and Finn made great attendants.

Thanks for the memorable day. Your paintings Marianne looked so well in that lovely gallery. I love your style, recognise your talent and hope they sell well. Thanks to all who helped and the dressing up was fun.

        Blessing and Ultreya,
Love Eleanor -Demeter, Godess of the Harvest. May your lader be always full. Hope you will be able to keep the Cornucopia, the symbol of bounty! Sorry the wind spoiled it…
