Welcome to The Secret Gallery Blog!
The Secret Gallery is a continuation on the secret theme of, secret gardens and albergues or refuges which we set up along the Camino de Santiago in Spain. So far the Secret Gallery focuses on art in the form of, paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and artist’s books. We intend to extend, elaborate and embellish this, doing creative things in the garden and outhouses, as well as more site specific work. Perhaps getting other artists and creative people involved. So far it is James and I, we call ourselves The Secret Gardeners, we know very little about gardening in the traditional sense of the word, none the less I find it a suitable word to describe what we do! Starting with little seeds and whispering Grow Grow Grow!

At the moment the Secret Gallery looks out on the Atlantic Ocean and  the Aran Islands. At night, from my studio I can see a lighthouse. It is a perfect location after the semi deserted villages and the dry dusty tracks that criss cross the endless wheat fields of the meseta in Spain where we spent the last three years. There we gave out all sorts of teas and coffee, and a fairly wide assortment of food, ranging from  muesli bars and Magdelanas which are little sponge cakes, to elaborate midnight curries and seafood platters to which James would astonish hungry pilgrims with! Here, at least for the moment we will only be feeding the soul and imagination, but  food for the body wont be too far away!

If you would like to visit the Secret Gallery in the physical sense, Currently we are located at Luogh North, Doolin, Co. Clare, Ireland. Please see the map page for directions.

  1. Dear Marianne,

Having seen your ‘Secret Garden’ in Spain and experienced your hospitality there and in Doolin and seen the beginnings of The Secret Gallery I know you to be an imaginative, sensitive and honest painter creating from your soul. What a talent! As you explain your paintings evolve according to your current feelings. And your use of colour…..we need it to lighten our lives!

I love the idea of you, James and the family creating this interesting project down there in Doolin. I look forward to my next visit and encourage passersby to stop and look in. Surely they will come away all the richer for the experience and hopefully with a sample of Marianne’s work under their arms. The spirit of El Camino de Santiago will surely follow you to Doolin. You gave sustenance to the body and soul of us pilgrims there and surely you will do the same from the Secret Gallery. You lovely people,
    Ultreya y besos

  4. Well done on this one guys. When i as in Santiago years ago i met with two men from Northern ireland. It was the 12th of july, traditionaly marching and parade time in the north. however these two men had started their Camino in dublin and told us that if they were at home on this day, they would never be together as one was protestant and the other catholic. they had an amazing time and formed a true friendship which allowed them to leave all their boundaries behind them. Anything that does this to people in the world is a good thing and for you two to carry this to doolin is to be commended.

  6. Hi Marianne,

I love your art and I’m also an old friend of James. I’m wondering if you could tell James that I am trying to reach him. I’m an American friend who met him while living in London.

If so, I would appreciate it.

    Kind regards,

    Amanda
