The Secret Gallery is a Sleeping and Meditating Space for the Winter!

leave a comment »

Gradually The Secret Gallery has become more and more homely, James has been baking everyday and his croissants, breads and biscotti have been divine! I have been making my own stock and soups. The other day as I carried a wooden platter turned by my Dad with some fresh bread made by James with loganberry jam on it made by my Mum into our children, they said “and everyone made the butter”! Long live the Good Life!

The gallery is becoming a meditation room for the winter, paintings are being stored and incense and candles are burning! If people are interested in visiting the studio to see some art work we can arrange that if we have a little notice! We will be opening up again next year, hope to see you all then!

Intervention at the Secret Gallery, Doolin. Dream Horses Blankets being aired!

DSCF2308

I made these Horse Blankets during my Degree year in Crawford College of Art, along with some more. They had been in storage for many years, so today I thought that I would give them an airing in the wind off the Atlantic Ocean. They are made out of many different types of materials and natural pigments. Previously they hung in a room between the ceiling and the floor, here I loved the way the wind moved them, at times they looked like giant jelly fish or flat fish under the sea such as Giant Rays. This is the same clothes line that I made the wind drip drawing or should I say the wind made them, 8 years ago and the blankets were made about 12 years ago. It felt good to take them out again!

Little poems from Doolin

leave a comment »

Eight years ago, when I visited Doolin for about a month during my M.A, I wrote these poems that slightly resemble Haiku poetry. I wrote them as I walked near the Cliffs of Moher and across The Burren. Now they are draped over our sofa on lengths of cotton! Little did I know that my family would one day sit on the words in the very same house! Life is very unpredictable and mysterious!

Here

horses graze

among sea-foam

Looking down

the sea-gulls

are imitating stars

Floating on

even thistles

become soft

Every day

I walk

a circle

The moon

is reflected

in a distant rock-pool

Wind is blowing

even horses

cling to mountains

Is it a long way from Doolin to Dharamsala?

leave a comment »

We are not really sure yet but we think it is quite far! Little did we know when James got his first motor bike a 125cc Yamaha Dragstar, that it was going to be his chariot for raising awareness about issues of peace and freedom for Tibet, all the way from Doolin to Dharamsala! James is my muse and is constantly inspiring me, certainly now is no exception! You will see some peaceful influence coming into my work, right about now!! I am asking myself what is peace, how do you make it, is it possible, would I like it! Yes! I can safely say I would like it, but enough to do anything about making it happen? It is close, if I am helped, supported and reminded constantly I think I would like to do lots! That is where the new peacerider.com web site by James Slevin will help us who are interested in Peace, to get inspired and maybe helped along on a smoother ride, to help create a peaceful world. I would highly recommend all to have a peak.

Peace for you, Peace for them, Peace for parents, Peace for children, Peace for individuals, Peace for animals, Peace for all sentient beings, Peace on our planet, Peace on the moon and Peace in our minds!

The Secret Gallery gets ready!

leave a comment »

There hadn’t been very many visitors to the gallery lately, it felt like allot of effort to keep the doors open for maybe no callers! I had started to let the gallery become a home, and a pretty messy one at that! This has changed as of yesterday, and we are back in organised mode! I have been reminded to get ready first and the rest will follow! Sometimes I think that it is the very part of me that allows me to paint and be creative that make me very chaotic and is not a great business head! just as well there are two of us! Yesterday was a grand combination of cleaning, clearing, feng shui, lessons in computer skills and creative play which took the guise of placing coins, shells and little precious things in the cracks and cubby holes in the old stone fire place, like offerings. This also reminds me of some of the bars in Galicia, Spain, where they put coins in the walls. I am not sure why they do this, maybe somebody knows?

We have started to extend the gallery outside as well! A line of shells and drift wood that resemble both a tide line and a ladder that runs down the garden path. The first day we enjoyed watching the birds exploring their new perches, I hope they approved! Today we open at 9am, so we hope to see more than the birds, though they are always welcome too!
