Thank you for your comment. Myself and the other artists in TAM are planning to do lots more of that kind of thing, bringing beauty and meaning to places. I think it is especially needed in places that seem to be without it. The other day a couple of us made some paper boats that we painted and dipped in melted wax. We are going to make lots of them and birds too and leave them somewhere for people to take. We are thinking of floating them in puddles, and hanging them from trees. It would be good to leave them in places that feel a bit sad, neglected or not beautiful.

I have just created a new studio space upstairs so I can make studio based work again larger than sketch book size, and know where my materials are, I cant wait. My studio was in the larger gallery room before we opened up this season, it is quite refreshing to move it around though. Good luck with your own art. Wow, Scott. Thanks for replying! This is the first “success” I’ve had in my search. That is almost exactly the same story, and grief and bewilderment, that I got. She was recovering from a near-fatal scooter accident (supposedly) in my version. We had been “yahooing” for a good nine months, had (I thought) grown very close. She sent me pics of her and her horse, copies of paintings she supposedly did, and recordings of songs, but then she just vanished in July of ’08. What’s bizarre is that I met her by chance playing a sailing game (that she said she joined as a way to pass the time while she recovered), so it’s not like I was specifically targeted for a hoax, and she never asked for money or anything. I couldn’t come up with a single reason for a hoax like that, unless it was just to screw with someone for a laugh, but c’mon, IMing for nine months, often for four or five hours at a time, and with absolute consistency of character? What would be the point of spending that much time on a simple hoax just for the lulz? I’d really love to find out the truth some day… Why don’t you email me at cowcharge@yahoo.com, we can compare notes. Thanks again, it’s amazing to hear something finally.

Thank you very much. I just collected these paintings from an exhibition this morning. I love the way jelly fish move, it is ethereal, I wanted to capture this feeling in a still painting and not just how they look physically, so I am glad you like the effect.

It is likely that you are the victim of a grand hoax. Last year a person claiming to be Caitlin Macdonagh and her friend, Feythe O’Caelliagh, supposedly befriended me in what became a deep friendship. Caitlin was supposedly living on Inis Meain suffering from terminal cancer and reportedly died on January 25th of this year. I was desperately attempting to contact Feythe in the days following and went first through the authorities and then through a respected innkeeper on the island. I found that no two such people lived on the island and the photographs I had did not match anyone living on the island. With only 120 people on the island it was not likely that the innkeeper was mistaken. I am sorry if you had a repeat experience. It was a time of great grief and bewilderment.

Thanks for your comment. I suppose when talking about finishing paintings, I feel more like I have done as mush as I feel capable of with a painting at that time, then it is finished in a fixed way. Though sometimes I am pretty sure they are finished, and the only way I could work on them more would be to create a really different painting. Sometimes I look at old paintings and still feel they are finished and sometimes I rework others, trying to remember what it was I was trying to paint about at the time, as it can be tempting to change old work to make it more about now, I think. I am not that confident about judging my work. I usually think that if I felt present and concentrated while I was doing it it is going to be better then if I was sort of distracted, but I am not even sure if that is a good way to measure it! Yes risk taking can be uncomfortable but I think it helps me move onto the next stage with my work. Good luck with your own writing and risk taking.

I am fascinated with the process a painter goes through to determine whether a painting is finished. Do you ever feel as if your paintings are finished? I guess writers have the same challenge. I find myself wanting to make changes in posts and manuscripts. I do like your description, “I took a few risks” and will remember that when I write.

Hi! I’m not looking so much for a muse as for help finding contact info for another gallery, sorry… I like your work, though
I haven’t had any luck through the web, and I figured who better to ask than another artist? I lost contact with a couple of friends who said they were opening a converted-cottage gallery on Inis Meain, right up from the dock, with a fancy new carved door that one of their brothers made… The friends’ names were Feythe Melanigan and Caitlin MacDonagh. Being a yank and all, I can’t just take the ferry over and look… Do you know of this gallery? Or perhaps was I being fooled? Thanks for your time,

Your insights about the artist also apply to the writer. I so related with your point,”If art is to conform to the wants of the masses, how is art to grow?” This is such a conflict for writers. I liken it to fast food versus quality food. Maybe it is my age but I cannot conform. I am glad you are standing your ground as well and yet willing to meet the public somewhere in the middle.

What an intriguing photo and post. I relate to your thoughts because sometimes I feel a strange sort of madness captivate my mind. My mother read an article by Psychologist, James Dobson, about middle children taking longer to discover their identities. That is a great excuse I will use for now.
